Page
setting
Ctrl
+
N
is the shortcut key for opening a new document and Ctrl+O
is
to open an existing document.
Selecting
page size:
Inkscape
offers a list of standard page sizes to choose from, orientation
(portrait or landscape) and also the option to create your own page
size using ‘custom
size’
in the Document properties dialog (Shift+Ctrl+D).
Drawing
in the page
If
the drawing has to be shared in SVG format, then the drawing can be
done outside the page and later the final work can be placed inside
the page frame. But if the drawing has to be printed or exported to
vector formats then the drawing should be done within page frame as
everything outside the page is ignored. Bitmap export can save either
the page or the drawing, wherever it is placed.
Resize
page to the drawing:
If
your drawing is outside the page frame and if the selected objects
has to fit exactly onto the frame, then click ‘Resize page to
selection/fit page to selection’ in the document properties dialog.
Hide
the page frame
If
you would like to export your drawing as a bitmap file, then as
mentioned earlier, the page frame need not be considered. This means
you can afford to hide the page frame - uncheck the ‘show
page border’
control in the Border category of the Document Properties dialog.
