7) Saving your painting

Saving your painting

To save your painting, Go to File in the menubar and select Save option (File > Save)

MyPaint saves your painting by default in the open raster format (.ora).

Click on File > Save as, if you would like save an already saved file in a different location in your system.

Image file formats supported by MyPaint

MyPaint can save your work in 3 formats – open raster format (ora), png and jpg. Open raster format is the native file format or the default file format in which any image would be saved in MyPaint. You can convert a file saved in ora format into png or jpg format by using the File> Export option or File> save as option and then specify the format to be saved (png/jpg).

File format
File extension
Preferred use
PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
.png
This is the preferred image format if an image has text.
JPG/JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group )
.jpg/.jpeg
This image format is preferred for
sending images by email or to
post on the web because of its
small file size.
ORA (Open Raster)
.ora
This image format is always
recommended if you would like
to rework on the painting later.
