Identifying
Ads
A
search result page has a list of results which normally includes
title of the web page, its web address and a short excerpt of the
page showing where the keywords have matched content within the page.
Amongst these results, there are some links which are paid or
sponsored and basically are advertisements included by the search
engines. The websites pay search engines to have their web pages
listed in the search results.
For
recognising these sponsored links or advertisements, Open a browser
(eg., Mozilla Browser, google chrome etc), go to a search engine
(eg., Yahoo, Google, Bing, etc.), type in the search box the keyword
related to the topic of your search and you will get web page with a
list of results. See the example below - Yahoo as a search engine has
been used.
The
sponsored links or advertisements are distinguished from normal links
by a small “ad” or “sponsored” written in their vicinity. For
instance, in the picture above, “Ad” appears above the link on
the right side of the web page. This link is an advertisement.
Similarly,
if a search is done using Google, the advertisements will appear at
the top of the search result page and will be highlighted with a
different colour. Also, “ad” or “sponsored” will be written
beside it.
