Constructing a Figure using Lines and Polygons using GeoGebra
Drawing images by free-hand and how to colour them has been practiced till now. When you consider an image, if you select a point and drag it, it’s shape gets distorted.
When you select a point in an image and if you do not want the image to get distorted, what will you do?
Let us do it.
You have already learnt, how to draw a house by free-hand.
Now, let us draw it by using regular shapes like rectangles, parallelograms, isosceles triangles and equilateral triangles, etc.
Let us draw a rectangle:
To draw a rectangle, follow the steps given below.
Open a GeoGebra file.
Select the geometrical view.
Next, select a point.
Plot a point on the screen.
Then, select a segment.
Click on the point.
Draw a line segment by clicking, holding and dragging.
Now, to draw perpendicular lines on that point:
Go to tool bar and select 'Perpendicular Line'.
Then, click on the line segment and drag it to an end point of that line segment.
Similarly, construct another perpendicular line at the end point. Then you get a perpendicular line at that end as well.
Now, we want to construct a parallel line to the first perpendicular line segment we constructed.
To construct parallel line to the given line or line segment.
Plot a point on any perpendicular line with given measurement.
Select the line segment and select the point plotted on the perpendicular line.
Now, to get the required rectangle, we have to draw the polygon through four intersecting points. For this purpose, follow the steps given below.
Select a polygon.
Draw the polygon through four points and complete the cycle.
To get the required rectangle, we should hide all the extra lines. For this purpose,
Right click on the line and select 'Show object'.
Then, all the extra lines will get disappeared, and you will get the required rectangle.
If you want to change the colour of the rectangle, follow the same process as you had practiced to colour the object or shape.
Drag and drop test with points
Let us draw a parallelogram:
To draw parallelogram,
Select a point from the toolbar.
Then, plot a point on the screen.
Select a line 'Segment with Given Length'.
Then, click on the screen to get a line segment and give the value as length of the line segment, that you require.
After completing this, a line segment with given measurement will appear on the screen.
Draw another line segment from an end point of the line segment with measurement that you require.
Now, select 'Parallel line' from the toolbar.
Click on the line segment which you had drawn in the first step.
Draw a line on the point that you have drawn.
Next, draw another parallel line and drag that line up to the second end point of the line segment that you had drawn first.
Now, let us learn, how to find intersection points of parallel lines.
Select 'Intersect' from toolbar.
Click on the lines.
Then, all intersecting points will appear on the picture.
Now, select ‘Polygon’.
Draw the polygon through these four points and complete the cycle.
Next, to get the required parallelogram, all the extra lines should be hidden.
For this purpose, follow the same set of steps, which you have already practiced earlier.
Right click on the line.
Click on 'Show object'.
Next, to change the colour, follow the same process, which you have already practiced.
