5) USE OF PASTE AND PASTE SPECIAL

USE OF PASTE AND PASTE SPECIAL

Use of paste is very common feature in Libreoffice CALC . we can use some specifications also to get the specific kind of data or values while pasting.
There are three ways to perform the pasting :
1. Pasting clipboard(it is the place where the copied content is kept for temporary storage) contents using an icon menu
1. Click the arrow next to the Paste icon on the Standard Bar to open the menu.
2. Select one of the options.

If you do not like the result, click the Undo icon and then paste again with another option.
   2. Pasting clipboard contents using a dialog
1. Choose Edit - Paste Special.

2. Select one of the options and click OK.
If you are in a spreadsheet and the contents of the clipboard are spreadsheet cells, then a different Paste Special dialog appears. Use the Paste Special dialog to copy cells using basic or advanced options.
Transpose: swaps the rows and the columns of the cell range to be pasted.
Link: pastes the cell range as a link. If the source file changes, the pasted cells change also.
The other options are explained in the help, when you call the Paste Special dialog from within LibreOffice Calc.

3. Use of right click on the selected cell where you want to copy the content .

Let’s take an example of spreadsheet given in Handout 1:

If you want to find out the sum of marks obtained by a each student , then perform the following steps to do this task :

Select the cell where you want the FORMULA to be displayed.
Use the SUM function and calculate  the total of all marks obtained by first  student and  copy the content of cell (for e.g. I 4).

4. Now goto the next desired cell correspond to that column and perform right click and choose Paste option  .

5. Click on Paste to copy the formula in the desired cell , you will get your sum and check the formula also on Formula bar.

Copied formula

6. Now goto the next desired cell correspond to that column and perform right click and select Paste Special option .

7. A dialog box will appear .

8. Using the dialog box we can specify the kind of pasting we want (for eg. paste all will paste all formula and values etc. )

Example 2

Paste values only in cell using paste special using spreadsheet of given as Handout 1

Go to desired cell and  copy the content of cell (for e.g. I 4) formula and we want values only then again goto to next corresponding cell and do right click .

Select paste special and a dialog box will appear , now choose only numbers and click on OK .
Only the number related to that cell will be copied not the formula .

Example 3
