    1. Identify your state from the given Wall map of India.
    2. Can you identify your town/city on the Wall map (Eg.Anantapur)?
    3. Where you be able to easily locate the town/city?
    4. Does the wall map has the ability to auto identify the desired location?
    5. Which kind of maps has the ability to auto identify a location?
    6. While travelling, which maps would you prefer to take along with you? Why?
    7. If we want to get detailed information (such as latitudes/longitudes or elevation above sea level or population information) of a particular place (eg. Bellary), which maps would you prefer? Why?
  3. Thus by asking the above questions discuss the difference between hard copy maps in atlas vis-a-vi digital maps.
  4. Hence bring out the scope of digital maps and globes as listed below:
  • A paper map will never update itself. You need to buy a new map when they are published. Online maps and virtual globe updates themselves and “give the illusion of coming from real time”.
  • Digital maps are capable of receiving live traffic alerts, points of interest and service locations which the atlas user would not have access to.
  • Paper maps provide basic landscapes similar to digitized road maps, yet are often cumbersome, cover only a designated area, and lack many specific details such as road blocks.
  • Through Digital maps one can browse the world and measure the distance, direction and area more accurately using menu buttons.
  • Map information is processed and presented in a particular way. A map shows a single or more than one predetermined themes. Digital maps has the advantages of separate data storage and presentation.
  • The alteration of the information depicted on the maps require a new map to be drawn.
  • Spatial operations (Polygon overlay or Buffering) can be applied on integrated database to generate new sets of information.
