Column
Chart
Column charts are
commonly used for data that shows trends over time. They are best for
charts
that have a
relatively small number of data points. It is the default chart type
provided by Calc, as it
is one of the most
useful charts and the easiest to understand. If you have a large time
series, a
line chart would be
better suited.
A column chart shows
vertical bars, with the height of each bar being proportional to its
value.
The X-axis shows
categories and the Y-axis shows the value for each category.
For example:
Consider a data
which speaks about the preference of people on type of movies. When
this data is plotted as a column graph, it gives a clear picture of
which type of the movie is liked by the most of the people, which
type is the least on preferences etc.
Plotting column
graph:
-
Select the data in the spreadsheet
-
Open the chart wizard (Recall the steps given in previous handouts)
-
Select the chart type ‘Column’ and click finish
-
Column graph/chart gets displayed in the spreadsheet.
As in bar diagram, the shape of the bar can be selected to be a 3D
shape also.
