19) Saving in non-editable format

Saving in non-editable format

Non-editable formats refers to the image format i.e., the output. It can be png, jpeg, pdf etc. To do this select any of the following command from file menu or use the shortcut. In the window that opens,

Command
Keyboard shortcuts
save
Ctrl+S
save as
Shift+Ctrl+S

If you need in some other formats (other than SVG) then in the window that opens, click on the drop down menu and select the required format like pdf, png etc. After selecting the file format, click on ‘save’.

While selecting ‘pdf’ format, the following dialog will appear giving you some options for the PDF export:
Here you can edit options for the PDF output like setting the version of PDF export, whether you want to embed fonts (or convert text to paths or curves), and whether you want to rasterize filter effects like blurs.
Once you click OK, your PDF will be exported and ready to use.

Exporting to bitmap
If you wish to export your document to a raster format then choose File> export bitmap or press Shift+Ctrl+E. Here you can specify whether you want the page to be saved (if you drawing/image is within the page frame) or your drawing (if you have not created your image inside the page frame) or selection by clicking on the appropriate tab in the window that appears. Further you also have the option to specify the pixel and resolution of the image.
Page tab:
When you want to save the whole Page, which is the exact size of the canvas then select page tab. When the page tab is selected the option appears as given below. Individual coordinates for the export area corners (x0, x1, y0, y1) appears at the top which just happens to be the canvas dimensions as we have selected the whole page.
Bitmap size refers to the final dimensions of your export area, which can of course be changed, but always keep this one simple. The standard dpi is 90.00, so keep that there as it is.
Here it is not just enough give the name of the file. Instead the whole path of the path has to be given. Easiest way of doing it is click browse and navigate through the location where you want to save and then type the file (for example: /home/ciet-ncert/Pictures/stars). This applies to all the tabs.
After setting all these options, click on import and the output will be a png file. PNGs are the only bitmap Inkscape exports to because they have that awesome alpha channel that allows for transparency and opacity.
Drawing tab:
In this tab the values of the area corners (x0, x1, y0, y1) will be displayed with respect to the drawing done on the canvas. All other options are similar to the page tab.
Selection tab
Incase if you want to do three separate icon objects, but you didn't want to have three separate Inkscape documents. This can be done by drawing all the three objects in single canvas and then exporting them as individual images. For example, if you have created three shapes in a single canvas and then you want to import them as individual images.

With the Selection tool, select all of the icons/objects. Then select File →Export Bitmap, then select selection tab. On the bottom, check ‘Batch export selected objects’ as shown below.
Save your SVG before doing this, because batch export doesn't ask for a path but is going to export each individual object into the same folder your SVG is saved in. Check the box against ‘Batch export 3 selected objects’ and select Export. All the three objects gets saved as individual files.

Custom tab
Instead of selecting any particular object, any particular area can be selected by selecting the custom tab and prescribing the area to be selected. Then by giving filename and exporting, that particular area can be exported.
