Rearranging Objects
The objects can be rearranged by grouping, ungrouping, flipping and ordering.
Grouping and ungrouping:
Several objects can be combined into a group. After grouping the group of objects behaves as a single object while dragging or transforming.
To group the objects, select the objects (recalling selecting multiple objects) and select Object → Group from the menu bar or press Ctrl+G.

Multiple levels of grouping can also be done. First image below shows that the multiple objects selected and the image image shows the group single object.

A grouped object can also be ungrouped. To ungroup an object, select the object select Object → Ungroup from the menu bar or press Shift+Ctrl+G. The objects gets separated.

If the objects have been grouped at multiple levels, then repeat ungrouping multiple times to get the objects separated individually. You don't necessarily have to ungroup, however, if you want to edit an object within a group. Just Ctrl+click that object and it will be selected and editable alone, or Shift+Ctrl+click several objects (inside or outside any groups) for multiple selection regardless of grouping. Try to move or transform the individual objects in the group without ungrouping it, then deselect and select the group normally to see that it still remains grouped.
Ordering:
The term z-order refers to the stacking order of objects in a drawing. In other words, it is the order in which the objects are drawn on the canvas. The objects created last will always be placed at the very top of the z-order.
For example, when you draw different shapes, each new one will be drawn on top of the previous ones, as shown in the figure below. The green circle (drawn first) is at the bottom of the z order and the blue spiral (drawn last) is at the top of the z order.

Changing the z order of objects can be done using the commands 'Raise to Top' and 'Lower to Bottom' in the Object menu that will move the selected objects to the very top or very bottom of the current layer. The other two commands under the Object menu, ‘Raise’ and ‘Lower’, will sink or emerge the selected object by one step only.

Flipping
Flip a selected object vertically or horizontally by clicking the flip buttons i.e., by selecting Object->Flip Vertical (or press v) or Object->Flip Horizontal (or press h).

Flipping a selection while in scale mode makes it flip within its bounding box, so that the bounding box remains fixed:

However, in rotate/shear mode flipping happens over an axis through the rotation center:
